Maybe you read my poems
And I want you to know
I'm so sorry

I didn't mean to be that way
But I was young and naiive
And I never realized
how much you meant to me

You mean the world to me
And I just can't stand how
I can't stand on the pedestal with you
But what I know now
Is that I can help you go higher
I can help you grow more

I keep trying to take away the sun from you
When you're already in the dark
So I'm sorry that I was such a bad friend
And maybe I still am
I just can't stand to see you being taken away
Because you're the only friend I've got
And I don't want to lose you

And I'm hoping that no matter how far you've climbed
You'll reach out for me every once in a while
And pull me from the depths
To share your happiness with me

I hope you go far in life
But I hope that you remember to come home sometimes.
